Sheep and Cattle Industry Fund Regulations Review update
Livestock SA has completed the scheduled review of the South Australian Sheep Industry Fund (SIF) and Cattle Industry Fund (CIF) Regulations, with the final report submitted to the Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development in May 2026.
The review was required because the current regulations are due to be remade by 1 September 2026. It provided an opportunity to assess whether the funds remain fit-for-purpose, financially sustainable and aligned with the future needs of South Australia’s sheep and cattle industries.
The review process was undertaken over nine months, commencing in September 2025 with research, analysis and planning. This included reviewing the performance of the funds against the SA Red Meat and Wool Blueprint 2030, assessing current funding levels and future industry needs, commissioning independent analysis, and developing an industry engagement plan in consultation with government.
Between December 2025 and April 2026, Livestock SA delivered a comprehensive consultation program involving:
- targeted engagement with livestock agents, processors, feedlots and other supply chain stakeholders
- regional producer meetings across South Australia
- online information and consultation sessions
- discussion papers, factsheets, FAQs and dedicated web resources
- direct communications through newsletters, media and digital channels
- a formal online voting process for sheep and cattle producers.
The consultation sought feedback on the operation of the funds, contribution arrangements, collection mechanisms, governance settings and future industry investment priorities. All feedback received through meetings, submissions, direct engagement and the voting process was considered as part of the final review.
A comprehensive consultation report documenting the engagement process, stakeholder feedback and voting outcomes has been finalised. Consistent with the timeline previously communicated to industry, the report was submitted to the Minister in May 2026 for consideration as part of the regulation remaking process.
The South Australian Government will now consider the report as it progresses the remaking of the regulations.
Livestock SA will continue to keep members and the broader industry informed as the process progresses.
