Industry Vote Now Open – Sheep & Cattle Industry Funds Regulations Review
Voting is now open as part of the 2026 Sheep and Cattle Industry Funds Regulations Review, marking the final stage of this industry‑led process.
The outcome of this vote will directly inform the recommendations Livestock SA submits to government on the future contribution settings and collection mechanisms for the Sheep Industry Fund (SIF) and Cattle Industry Fund (CIF).
Eligible producers are encouraged to review the proposals and lodge their vote during April 2026.
Voting closed 30 April 2026.
Why Voting Matters
The Sheep Industry Fund and Cattle Industry Fund underpin many of the programs that protect productivity and market access for South Australian livestock producers, including animal health and biosecurity, traceability, predator control, workforce capability, advocacy and industry development.
Contribution rates for both funds have not changed since 2016, while costs and risks facing the industry have increased. Independent analysis confirms the funds continue to deliver strong returns but also highlights structural funding pressures that must be addressed to maintain essential programs.
This vote is the mechanism through which producers determine the final proposal that goes to government. Strong participation is essential to ensure the final regulatory settings reflect industry priorities and provide a clear industry mandate.
What Is Being Voted On
The vote covers proposed changes to contribution arrangements for both funds, including:
Sheep Industry Fund (SIF):
- A staged increase to the contribution rate from $0.55 to $0.75 per head by 2028
- An increase to the transaction trigger price from $5 to $10 per head
Cattle Industry Fund (CIF):
- A shift from per‑tag to per‑transaction collection
- Contribution rate to remain at $1.50 per head
These proposals have been informed by regional consultation, online webinars, written feedback and independent analysis. They are not predetermined outcomes. The industry vote will determine the final recommendations.
Who Can Vote
Voting is conducted online throughout April 2026.
Anyone who owns and sells sheep or cattle in South Australia is eligible to vote. Each eligible producer may submit one vote.
