Livestock SA to host The Future Flock consultations in Adelaide, supporting producers with practical information and a clear pathway to have their say
Livestock SA will host visiting The Future Flock Strategy consultations in Adelaide this week, ensuring South Australian sheep producers and supply-chain participants can access independent information and contribute directly to a national discussion about the future direction of Australia’s sheep industry.
The Future Flock is being led by Sheep Producers Australia and is intended to produce a national strategy for the sheep meat and wool industries.
Livestock SA is pleased to be able to facilitate producer participation by hosting an in-person consultation session with members of the Livestock Advisory Committee alongside additional supply chain participants, so that we can share practical information with The Future Flock consultation team, based on the unique needs of South Australian producers, and ensuring that the significant work undertaken to develop the SA Red Meat and Wool Blueprint 2030 is recognised and valued as a part of any national plan that may be developed.
“South Australian producers are dealing with real-world decisions every day, seasonal pressure, costs, markets and regulation. Our job is to make sure producers can access credible information and have a straightforward way to add their voice to industry processes that may influence future investment and policy settings,” said Gillian Fennell, Chair of Livestock SA.
South Australia’s red meat and wool industries contribute approximately $4.49 billion to the state’s economy each year and employ over 21,000 South Australians, accounting for around 28% of all agricultural sector jobs. Decisions that affect long-term confidence, investment signals and industry settings have real consequences for regional communities and supply chains.
