Submission to Environment Protection Reforms: Setting up for success

Documents & Downloads

Livestock SA has provided feedback on proposed environment protection reforms, supporting stronger environmental outcomes while ensuring agriculture remains viable.

The submission highlights concerns about uncertainty, duplication and regulatory burden, noting key parts of the framework are not yet finalised. Livestock SA is calling for a practical, risk-based approach that protects routine farming activities, improves certainty and supports food production and regional economies.

Recommendations

  • Delay implementation until the full framework (standards, data, guidance) is complete
  • Include agriculture in National EPA decision-making
  • Define and exempt low-risk, routine farming activities
  • Focus on high-risk areas using science-based, targeted regulation
  • Improve environmental data and allow landholders to correct errors
  • Reduce duplication, “assess once, approve once” with states
  • Consider cumulative regulation across all frameworks
  • Align emissions reporting with existing systems
