Workshop to Boost Financial Confidence for South Australian Farmers – Jamestown and Strathalbyn

South Australian farmers will have the opportunity to strengthen their financial skills and improve business decision-making through a one-day workshop funded under the State Government’s $73 million Drought Support Package.

Running a farming business in 2026 requires a clear understanding of financial performance, with rising input costs, increasing machinery expenses and seasonal variability placing greater pressure on operational and management decisions. In response, Livestock SA is delivering a practical, face-to-face workshop designed to help farmers and business partners better understand their financial position and apply this knowledge to decision-making over the next 12 months.

The session will guide participants through the key numbers underpinning their business, with a focus on cashflow management, debt settings and understanding the long-term impacts of day-to-day decisions. It will also support stronger internal business communication, helping families and partners align around financial priorities.

“This is a workshop that offers practical tools producers can use immediately in their businesses,” said Sophie Ashby, Project Officer at Livestock SA. “Producers have told us they want support that’s grounded in real farm operations, and that’s exactly what this workshop delivers. It’s about building clarity and confidence so families can make informed decisions together, with the numbers in front of them.”

Participants will gain:

  • Greater confidence in understanding their financial position
  • Clearer visibility of how cash flows through the business
  • Increased confidence in financial discussions with partners or family
  • Practical preparation for upcoming bank and finance reviews
  • Tools to support confident, forward-looking business decisions

The workshop is suited to farmers navigating high input costs or tight cashflow, those preparing for bank reviews, and businesses operating within partnership or family structures. Attendees are encouraged, but not required, to bring their most recent financial statements for personal reference.
